My Purpose vs My Message

Knowing my purpose and finding my message is two different things.

My purpose for retaining this seat is to ensure that there are multiple voices at the table. Knowing how community college set me up for success, I champion enrollment and completion. The power of walking across that stage knowing a college degree awaits you is a feeling that students never forget.

I am in this race to represent people who are not sure their voice even matters. It does! And I want them to know I am listening. Since serving on the board of Oakland Community College, I am learning how much this college means to the community and how it has changed the lives of so many people.

My message is simple: Community College is college. It is a huge resources for individuals who have limited funds but want to continue their education. Community College is a vehicle for economic mobility. Community College is a tool to help students to experience college on their own terms. Community College is a life saver for those who need extra support and a place they can feel safe and welcomed.

Community College Completion is important as well. Finishing that degree is a milestone of completion and celebration.

My message is: I believe that college isn’t for everyone but for those who choose to attend, there is support, help and welcoming for you.

I am running to keep access to community college free; support student initiatives and services; to listen and respond to the needs of the community and business leaders in the workforce.

I am running because Oakland Community College helped to change my life (Mi Vida).
