On a Learning Curve

In this race I have made a few mistakes. Not career or campaign damaging mistakes but things that I needed to know before today.

As a candidate for the very first time, I would recommend that one should attended some sort of class or training that helps to answer questions about your run/race/state.

I would suggest that you sit with those in the know so that you have the right information at the right time. People to guide you through the process. I am not a politician, I am a servant. Therefore I may make a mistake but I’ll own it, correct it, learn from it and do better next time.

What takes me by surprise is the way in which people operate in the shadows…

I am running for an unpaid Trustee seat but it feels like I am running for President. All of the work that goes into just trying to do the right thing for the right reasons.

My three suggestions to potential future candidates:

  1. Get in a class with trained professionals so you know what is and isn’t allowed.

  2. Get a campaign manager fast and first.

  3. Don’t get swayed by all of the lurkers and lookers. Run your race and do it with grace. #VoteBurrus #ReElectMiVidaBurrus #BurrusForOaklandCommunityCollege #WinYourRace
